Adjibi Breaks Championship Record
En Route to National 60m Title
TUESDAY, MARCH 03, 2026

Golden Star Eliezer Adjibi delivered a historic performance at the Canadian Indoor Track & Field Championships, rewriting the record books in the men’s 60 metres.

After opening his campaign with 6.69 seconds in the preliminaries, Adjibi surged to a breakthrough performance in the semifinals, clocking a new personal best of 6.62 seconds. The mark shattered the long-standing Championship Record previously held by Bruny Surin, an Olympic gold medallist in the 4×100m relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics and later inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame as part of that historic relay team.

Adjibi returned to the track for the final and secured the national title in commanding fashion, stopping the clock at 6.64 seconds — another performance under the previous championship mark.
From prelims to podium, Adjibi ran 6.69 – 6.62 – 6.64, showcasing both speed and consistency across three rounds of racing.
With the 2026 World Indoor Championships set for later this month in Kuyavian–Pomeranian, Poland, Adjibi’s record-breaking form sends a strong message on the international stage. Momentum is clearly on his side as we await the final verdict for the World Stage.
