Adjibi and Team Canada Capture World Relays Silver
After Record-Breaking Weekend
SUNDAY, MAY 03, 2026

Golden Star Eliezer Adjibi opened his 2026 national team season with another global medal, helping Athletics Canada claim silver in the mixed 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Relays in a time of 40.23 seconds.
Joining Adjibi on Team Canada were Marie-Éloïse Leclair, Duan Asemota, and Audrey Leduc. Entering the championships as defending champions after Canada's gold medal performance at the 2025 World Athletics Relays, the Canadian squad once again delivered on the world stage.
Their path to the podium began with a historic performance in the qualifying round. Canada stormed to a world record time of 40.08 seconds, securing qualification for both the 2027 World Athletics
Championships and this summer’s World Athletics Ultimate Championship. The record stood briefly before the Jamaican national team lowered the mark to 39.99 seconds later in the competition.
The preliminary round also produced one of the most talked-about moments of the meet. During the first exchange between Adjibi and Leclair, a difficult baton pass nearly unravelled the race. Instead, both athletes remained calm and composed under pressure. Leclair trusted Adjibi completely as he guided the baton into position, allowing the exchange to stay alive and the race to continue. The moment quickly gained attention online, with many praising the pair’s poise and teamwork in a high-pressure situation.
Adjibi once again showcased his relay versatility on the international stage. After running the anchor leg during Canada’s gold-medal performance in 2025, he took on the lead-off role in this year’s silver-medal run, helping set the tone for the team from the opening exchange.
The medal marks Adjibi’s second consecutive global medal in the mixed 4x100m relay, following last year’s gold, and places him as part of the only Canadian world-record relay performance since Donovan Bailey iconic 100m triumph at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
With this performance, Team Canada has officially qualified for both the World Athletics Ultimate Championships this September in Hungary and the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, continuing to build momentum as one of the premier relay squads in the world.
