ShonDreya Smardon Named to Rugby Canada

U21 Squad for European Tour

MONDAY, MARCH 23, 2026

Golden Star Shondreya Smardon has earned national recognition, being selected as one of 30 players to represent Rugby Canada on its Women’s U21 team for the 2026 spring tour in Ireland and England.

The selection marks Smardon’s first-ever national team assignment, as she joins a group of rising Canadian talents competing on the international stage. The squad has already made a strong impression overseas, securing convincing victories over the Ireland Women's U21 Rugby Team (48–24) in Dublin and the British Army Women's Rugby Team (58–10) in London.

Canada will wrap up the tour with a final match against England Women's U21 Rugby Team on March 25, closing out a competitive international schedule that has already provided valuable experience for the young squad.

The team was selected through an extensive national process, including regional identification camps across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and the Atlantic, as well as evaluations from provincial U19 competitions, regional matches, and U SPORTS play. The majority of the roster brings university-level experience, with many having competed at the 2025 U SPORTS Women’s Rugby National Championship.

Smardon’s selection and early success on tour highlight her continued development and mark an important milestone in her athletic journey, as she gains exposure on the international stage against top competition.
