The Junior Stars Program combines 3x weekly in-person training with guided at-home work to support consistent development.  In-person training introduces the following elements:

TRAINING

GENERAL STRENGTH + WEIGHTS - In The Gym
Athletes are introduced to weight training with a focus on learning proper technique, movement mechanics, and safe lifting practices. Strength work is specifically designed for track and field, building the power and strength needed for sprinting, running, jumping, and overall athletic performance. This is purposeful athletic training—not simply time spent in the gym.

RUNNING SESSIONS - In The Gym
Running sessions are tailored to each athlete’s event, with workouts that evolve throughout the season as athletes develop. Athletes build efficient running mechanics, develop speed and endurance, and prepare their bodies for the demands of track and field. Each session has a specific purpose, helping athletes develop the fitness and skills needed to perform at their best.

RACE APPLICATION DAY - On The Track
This is where athletes take their training to the track and put it all together. Athletes complete event-specific workouts, testing, and technical work while applying the mechanics developed through their strength and running sessions. The goal is to sharpen the details, build race-specific skills, and learn how to execute.

On non-training days, athletes receive guided work that may include general strength, additional workouts, recovery, or scheduled rest days. This hybrid approach helps young athletes learn to balance training with school, sports, and other demands while developing time-management skills, independence, and accountability. They begin to understand that staying healthy and progressing as an athlete requires consistent habits outside of structured training sessions and that ultimately, their development is something they have to take ownership of.

COMPETITION

Competition is a key part of the athlete development process. Throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons, athletes compete regularly, using meets as an opportunity to apply what they have learned in training, gain experience, and learn how to perform in different competitive environments.

Athletes have opportunities to compete for the club at local and invitational meets, as well as at provincial and national championships. They also represent their schools throughout the school season, competing at school meets and working toward qualification for the OFSAA Track & Field Championships.

As athletes develop, competition opportunities can extend well beyond the local level. Athletes may qualify for provincial and national championships, earn rankings, set provincial or national records, and be considered for provincial and national team selection.

We believe athletes need to compete to learn how to compete. Training builds the physical tools, but competition teaches athletes how to use them: how to manage nerves, execute under pressure, respond to setbacks, and perform when it matters. Our goal is to give athletes the experience and support they need to become confident, capable competitors while continuing to enjoy the process of getting better.
